Details & Inspection Notes
The Outback 145 is a gas engine-driven welder/generator built for places without shop power, giving DC stick welding up to 145 amps alongside AC generator output for running tools on site. A 6.8-gallon fuel tank is sized for extended work away from an outlet, and low-lift grab bars on both ends make it easier to load on and off a truck bed.
Who it suits
Service trucks, fencing crews, farm and ranch work, and maintenance crews that need portable stick welding plus generator power fit this machine well. At 285 pounds, it rides in a truck bed or on a trailer rather than getting carried by hand across a site.
Output and generator power
Stick welding runs up to 1/8-inch electrode, with duty-cycle ratings of 100 percent at 80 amps, 60 percent at 100 amps, and 30 percent at 125 amps. The generator side puts out 4,750 watts peak and 4,250 watts continuous, enough to run a grinder, work lights, a pump, or support motor starting and emergency power on site. A Lincoln Power MIG 140C or 180C can plug into this unit to add wire welding capability.
Q: Can this weld MIG or TIG on its own? No, this engine-driven unit welds stick only; wire welding needs a compatible Power MIG unit plugged into its generator output.
Q: How is fuel handled in the field? The 6.8-gallon tank has a large fill opening for faster re-fueling away from a shop.
Lincoln Electric's three-year warranty covers this new unit, and a California Prop 65 notice applies, as it does across most welding equipment. See our welding equipment lineup for a heavier-duty engine-driven welder if this unit's stick output will not cover your heaviest work.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
