Details & Inspection Notes
The Maxstar 210 DX is a DC-only stick and TIG inverter built with extended ranges compared to Miller's standard Maxstar line, and it will not TIG weld aluminum since there is no AC output. It auto-detects input voltage, so the same machine works across 120, 208, or 230-volt circuits without rewiring inside.
Output and duty cycle
TIG carries a 210A rating at a 60% duty cycle, while stick holds a 60% duty cycle down at 160A, with a usable range up to 210A overall and a maximum steel thickness of about 1/4 in. At 36 lbs it is light enough to hand-carry to a job site rather than roll on a cart.
Controls built in
A memory card port allows software updates later, and digital meters give a clear readout while welding. Low-OCV stick cuts standby voltage without an add-on reducer, adaptive hot start helps prevent demanding electrodes like E6010 from sticking at the arc start, and Lift-Arc gives a clean TIG start with no high-frequency buzz. Fan-on-demand and internal air channeling keep dust and debris away from the circuit boards, which matters a lot on a dusty shop floor.
Will this run on a standard 120V outlet? Yes, along with 208 and 230-volt circuits, without manual relinking.
Can it weld aluminum? No, this DX version is DC only.
Is it meant to travel often? At 36 lbs, yes, more so than Miller's heavier AC/DC machines.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
