Details & Inspection Notes
This Maxstar 161 STH package includes the TIG torch itself, not just the connector: a 12.5 ft air-cooled WP-17 torch, plus an RCCS-6M remote fingertip control for adjusting amperage right at the torch. There is no AC output on this STH, which rules out TIG welding aluminum, and it plugs into either a 120 or 240-volt circuit.
What it's rated for
On 120V, figure 20-90A for stick and 5-130A for TIG; step up to 240V and those become 20-160A and 5-160A. Material capacity lands around 3/16 in for mild steel and stainless, run with 5/32 in rod, and the power source weighs 13 lbs on its own.
Everything in the case
Beyond the power source, torch, and fingertip remote, the X-Case holds a flow gauge regulator with gas hose and an AK2C kit with collets, nozzles, and ceriated tungsten electrodes sized from .040 up to 3/32 in. The base hardware rides along too: power cords for each voltage, a stick electrode holder and clamp, and a shoulder strap. Having the torch and remote already matched to the power source saves tracking down a compatible torch separately.
Is gas supply equipment included? A flow gauge regulator and hose are included; a gas cylinder itself is not.
What controls amperage on TIG? The RCCS-6M remote lets you adjust it from the torch handle rather than the front panel.
Does the case protect the torch in transport? Yes, the X-Case is built to carry the power source and its matched torch together.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
