Details & Inspection Notes
The Fusion 185 is a gasoline or 120/240-volt stick welder and generator in one, built so the same machine switches between field power and shop power. Its spec field caps output at 160A with a 20% duty cycle at that amperage, and it weighs 246 lbs.
Power Shift and MVP
Power Shift lets the machine run off its own gas engine in the field or switch to wall power when brought indoors, and the multi-voltage plug connects it to either 120V or 240V outlets without an adapter. It pairs with a Spectrum 375 for air plasma cutting. A Kohler CH440 engine provides the power, spinning at 3,600 RPM for a rated 3.4 HP, with a 6.25-gallon fuel tank good for extended field use.
Starting and output
It starts electrically with a recoil backup if the battery runs low, and inverter technology keeps the stick arc smooth and forgiving of changes in arc length or travel speed. That combination suits a mobile crew moving between sites as much as a shop that occasionally needs to weld outdoors.
Can it run on wall power alone? Yes, through the multi-voltage plug on 120V or 240V circuits.
How is it started? Electric start, with a recoil pull as backup.
What's the confirmed output rating? Confirm the exact amperage with us before ordering, since this unit's figures vary by section.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
