Details & Inspection Notes
The Diversion 180 Complete package is built around a three-step setup: power up, pick the material type, then set the thickness range, with a digital display confirming exactly what is dialed in. At 50 lbs and running on either 115V or 230V without tools, thanks to Miller's Multi Voltage Plug, it travels between a home garage and a race-track pit easily.
AC/DC TIG, nothing else to manage
This is a dedicated TIG machine on aluminum, mild steel, or stainless, using inverter-based AC/DC power rather than an older transformer design, which Miller says gives a more efficient and more consistent arc. High-frequency, non-contact arc starts avoid tungsten contamination, and an Auto-Postflow feature times the shielding gas automatically by amperage so gas is not wasted or left to guesswork.
Duty cycle and what ships with it
- Duty cycle steps down as amperage climbs: 35% near 125A, 20% near 150A, 10% up at 180A
- Diversion 180 power source with an 8 ft primary cord and two MVP plugs
- RFCS-RJ45 remote foot control
- A clamp-equipped work lead stretching 12 ft, plus a Smith Argon flow gauge and regulator on a 12.5 ft hose
- A WP17 torch from Weldcraft, with a backcap, ceramic cup, 3/32″ collet and body, and 2% ceriated tungsten
Fan-On-Demand cooling only runs when the machine needs it, cutting noise and keeping dust out between jobs. Miller rates it for Beginner and Weekend Warrior users working at home, in a hobby shop, or in light industry, and includes its manufacturer's warranty.
Does it need a different plug for 115V versus 230V? No, the Multi Voltage Plug swaps to match either receptacle without tools. Is a torch included? Yes, the Weldcraft WP17 TIG torch ships complete with the package.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
