Details & Inspection Notes
The Dimension 650 packs a 100% duty cycle at 650 amps into an all-aluminum case that Miller says runs 3.5 times lighter and 40 percent smaller than the older Dimension 652, while drawing only about 43 amps on 460V power. It requires three-phase input at 380V or 460V and covers Stick, lift-arc TIG, short-arc MIG, flux-cored, and submerged arc.
Protection built into the case
An input-power indicator flags dirty power before it reaches sensitive components, Wind Tunnel Technology keeps dirt and debris off the electronics, and Fan-On-Demand only spins the cooling fan when the machine actually needs it, which also cuts noise on a quiet jobsite. The aluminum construction resists corrosion over the life of the machine rather than just at the showroom.
What ArcReach adds
- The power source takes commands remotely, with no cord needed, so trips back to the machine drop away
- Auto-Process Select reads the polarity of the connected accessory and sets the matching weld process
- Pairs with Miller's ArcReach Heater for preheat and bakeout jobs
Gouging mode opens up to 800 amps of usable power, with 650 amps available at the full 100% duty cycle, and three wire modes cover solid wire, flux-cored, and sub-arc welding. Arc control adds fine-tuning for out-of-position work. At 158 lbs it is far lighter than its output suggests, and it suits Career Welder-level crews across Heavy Industrial and Industrial settings; a manufacturer's warranty is included.
Does it need three-phase power? Yes, the Dimension 650 requires three-phase input, at either 380V or 460V. How much amperage is available in gouging mode? Up to 800 amps of usable gouging power, versus 650 amps at the rated 100% welding duty cycle.

Welding Equipment Setup & Pre-Operation Checklist
- Verify workshop mains voltage, circuit breaker rating, and phase match the welding machine specifications.
- Inspect ground clamp cable, torch lead, and work cables for tight, clean, low-resistance connections.
- Secure shielding gas cylinders upright with safety chains; inspect regulator and hose connections for gas leaks.
- Confirm correct wire diameter, drive roll groove profile, and contact tip size match the spool installed.
