Cruise 3.0 RL

The Cruise 3.0 RL is Torqeedo's entry-level electric outboard for dinghies and sailboats up to 3 tons, putting out roughly what a 6 hp petrol motor would. One Power 24-3500 lithium pack, purchased on its own, is the battery this motor is built around; it mounts on remote steering with an electric starter and a 30-inch long shaft. The bare motor comes in at 43 lbs, with that matched battery adding another 56 lbs.

Running it

Torqeedo rates the housing to IP67 and seals the drivetrain against saltwater corrosion for the kind of extended commercial-style use that includes the occasional grounding on a hard bottom. Lead-gel or AGM lead batteries can substitute for the lithium pack, with the trade-off that the onboard display stops reporting battery capacity once a lead battery is fitted in place of Torqeedo's own.

Setup and compatibility

Standard equipment covers the remote steering cable run, a main switch, and a dedicated B 12 x 10 WDR propeller. Third-party 24-volt batteries can also run this motor as long as their output is matched to it, though Torqeedo still recommends its own pack as the default. Buying the motor on its own means the throttle, battery, and charger each need to be ordered separately.

Sold new; non-commercial use carries a 2-year warranty from Torqeedo.
