Details & Inspection Notes
Suzuki's 2022 DF2.5 S is a 2.5 hp four-stroke, the smallest and most portable motor in the brand's lineup, aimed at dinghies, small inflatables and tenders rather than a primary boat motor. It is the lightest engine Suzuki builds in this class, with a single-cylinder OHV design and a recoil pull-rope start that needs no battery.
Who this motor suits
This is sized for small, light craft: a dinghy, a tender carried aboard a larger boat, or an inflatable that just needs enough push to get around a harbor or anchorage. It is not meant to move anything bigger, and because starting is entirely manual, there is no wiring or charging system to maintain.
What to check before buying
Confirm your transom can mount a motor this small and that 2.5 hp suits your boat's weight and how you plan to use it. Steering runs through the tiller, and fuel passes through a carburetor rather than electronic injection, so give it the fuel care any small carbureted engine needs between outings.
Emissions and starting
The DF2.5 S clears the EPA's 2010-era emissions limits along with California's strict low-emission rating, and uses Suzuki's own pointless electronic ignition system so starts stay reliable without a battery in the loop. Trim adjusts across four tilt pin positions.
Does it need a battery to run? No, starting is fully manual.
What size boats is it built for? Small tenders, dinghies and inflatables, nothing larger.
