2018 Tohatsu 5 Hp MFS5CS Outboard Motor

This new 2018 Tohatsu MFS5CS is the short-shaft sibling of Tohatsu's 5-hp, single-cylinder, 123cc four-stroke: a 15-inch shaft, tiller steering, and manual start. An external 3.1-gallon tank with its quick-connect line is included.

Matching the shaft to your boat

Sailboat auxiliaries, kicker setups behind larger fishing boats, and small jon boats or inflatables all call for slightly different transom heights, and this 15-inch shaft is the one Tohatsu pairs with lower transoms on this 5-hp engine. Since the same engine is also offered with a longer shaft, confirm the measurement on your boat before placing an order.

What is built in

Corrosion resistance here comes from zinc coating on the internal passages and marine-grade construction throughout, and the motor carries a saltwater rating, with a sealed ignition module and an rpm cutout backing up a warning light for low oil pressure. Controls run through a twist-grip throttle with tension control and a forward-mounted gear shift selector, with a carrying handle molded into the cowling for moving it by hand.
