The 2018 Tohatsu MFS20EEFTS combines a 15-inch short shaft with power tilt and electric start on the EFI version of the 20 hp tiller platform, aimed at larger or heavier skiffs, jon boats, and inflatables where a shorter shaft fits the transom better than a long one does.

Short shaft, powered trim

Power tilt lets you raise or lower the motor at a switch rather than a hand lever, which matters most on heavier boats where trimming by hand takes more effort; shaft length is still set by your transom, not by your trim preference. This EFI engine's top end runs from 5,000 through 6,000 rpm.

Fuel and electrical

Fuel comes from its own tank, roughly 3 gallons or 12 liters, piped in through a dedicated hose rather than a shared design across the lineup, and an aluminum propeller rounds out the hardware up front. A 12-volt, 12-amp alternator does the charging while electric start handles ignition, and the motor is cleared for saltwater.

Q: Does going short-shaft cost any power? No, displacement, induction, and the electrical system carry over unchanged; only the shaft length moves, decided entirely by your transom measurement.
