Details & Inspection Notes
Trade the 20-inch shaft on the MFS20EEFL for 15 inches and you land on the MFS20EEFS, a 2018 model that otherwise keeps the same 20 hp EFI engine and electric starter. Tohatsu aims both at larger jon boats, skiffs, or bigger inflatable boats, with shaft length chosen to match transom height rather than boat size alone.
Why shaft length matters here
A short shaft set wrong relative to the boat's transom changes how deep the propeller runs, hurting handling and fuel use; measure your transom rather than assuming a 15-inch shaft fits just because the boat itself is on the smaller side. This EFI engine's rated top end sits at 5,000-6,000 rpm from a 333cc block.
Fuel and electrical
Its fuel supply comes from its own 3-gallon tank (about 12 liters) rather than sharing a part number with the carbureted family, and the motor pulls double duty: electric start for convenience, with the rope there if the battery won't cooperate. Charging runs through a 12-volt, 12-amp alternator, and saltwater use is within spec.
Q: What's included in the box? The tank just mentioned, its hose, an aluminum propeller, and, bagged on their own, the manual and tool kit.
Tohatsu covers the MFS20EEFS for 5 years. Compared with a carburetor, EFI also tends to start more consistently after sitting through winter, since there's no float bowl or jets to clog with old fuel residue.
