2018 Tohatsu 20 Hp MFS20EEFL Outboard Motor

The 2018 Tohatsu MFS20EEFL moves the 20 hp tiller line to electronic fuel injection, still on a 20-inch long shaft with electric start and manual trim. The switch to EFI also brings a smaller 333cc displacement and a different full-throttle range than the carbureted version in the same horsepower class.

EFI changes a few numbers

Full throttle on this EFI model lands between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm. The fuel side is different from the carbureted family too: instead of the older tank size, this one carries 3 gallons, which works out to roughly 12 liters, so check which fuel system your records call for if you're swapping out an older motor.

Starting and charging

Turning the key brings in electric start, with a manual rope ready if you ever need it, and the onboard alternator is rated at 12 volts and 12 amps to keep a house battery fed while the engine runs. Saltwater use is fine on this one, and the crate holds the aluminum propeller, the fuel tank and its hose, plus a manual and a separate tool kit.
