Details & Inspection Notes

The 2018 Suzuki DF9.9BTL EFI is the High Thrust version of Suzuki's 9.9 HP four-stroke, built with tiller steering and power tilt for boats that troll at low speed rather than run wide open.

Built for trolling, not top speed

A forged aluminum connecting rod and a one-piece forged crankshaft back a 2.08:1 gear ratio turning a high-thrust propeller, so the motor favors pulling power over outright speed. A large hub design cuts cavitation when backing down, which matters for boats that spend time in reverse while fighting a fish. Battery-less EFI, digital CDI ignition, and a low oil pressure warning carry over from the standard DF9.9 line, and a 12V 12A alternator supplies the electric start.

Rigging and upkeep

Suzuki calls for a 20-inch transom on this shaft length, and the motor weighs 120 lbs with its electric starter in place. A fresh water flushing port and Suzuki's anti-corrosion treatment make seasonal care straightforward for owners who fish in salt water.

What's included

Suzuki rounds out the BTL with a 3.1-gallon tank and line, the aluminum propeller, a manual and tool kit, backed by three years of coverage.

Common questions

Will this run a boat fast? It is tuned for torque and trolling speed rather than top-end performance. Does it need a remote steering kit? No, it is set up for tiller steering out of the box.
