Details & Inspection Notes

The DF6AS runs the same 6 hp, single-cylinder, carbureted engine as the DF6AL but drops onto a shorter transom and comes in a pound lighter, at 55 pounds. Starting is manual pull-rope either way.

Before you order

This shorter trim is sized around a 15-inch transom, so measure that figure against your boat and double-check which mounting height it actually needs before ordering.

Starting and running

Cold starts get help from a hand-operated choke, the tiller grip handles both steering and throttle, and output climbs toward a recommended 4750-5750 rpm, matching the tune used across this small-engine family. A compact 3-blade propeller does the pushing, and trim adjusts across five tilt pin positions.

Suzuki backs the motor for three years, and inside the box you get an owner's manual, a tool kit, the propeller, and the 3.1-gallon fuel tank with its line.

How is this different from the other transom-height version of this engine? It mounts lower and weighs a pound less than its sibling.

Is a pull-rope start harder to use than push-button electric? It takes a bit more physical effort, but it means no battery to charge or wiring to trace if something stops working.

A single-cylinder carbureted motor like this one has fewer parts than an EFI equivalent, which generally means fewer things that can fail, though it still needs the choke used correctly on a cold start and fresh fuel kept in the tank between uses.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Startup warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads, and engine block for 30 days from delivery.
